Oh Sweet Cheeks, I Could Never Quit You

Hey, looks like we'll see Sinn Fein in a Twins uniform at least for the first part of next season. Let's hope a contract extension can be hammered out, but for now it's good to know that he'll be back in the spring.

I'd put a link to the article, but I don't know how to do that... so what the hell good am I?

Enjoy the baseball tonight!

Yay Torii!!

I have rather mixed feelings. If Torii can fully recover from his injury, he should be close to his old self in the field. But he's still very streaky and strikes out too much.

Looking at the bigger picture, though, finding a replacement might have been difficult.

He is streaky, but amazingly he had better power numbers this year than, for example, Magglio Ordonez. So at least he's not being overpaid, especially with all that "face of the franchise" rubbish. Isn't Joe Mauer that by now? I mean, Torii never had a sideburn night.

Torii's got charisma!

Joe should definitely be the face of the franchise when he wears glasses, like a picture I saw recently.

The most important thing is that this is only a one-year deal, so it shouldn't do too much to upset making long-term deals with guys like Mauer and Morneau.

And, if the Twins starting pitching is one Cy Young winner followed by four not-ready-for-the-big-league arms, we can maybe trade Torii to upgrade the rotation.

I'm hoping Torii will be as amazing next April and May as he was in August and September. He could help the team and nail down a very sweet long-term deal with the Twins or (more likely) some rich big-market club.

If they do trade him around mid-season and Denard Span is doing well at Rochester that could open up a spot for him at the major league level, similar to what happend with Barlett last season.

But then again, it's tough to say whether you'd prefer someone who is not major league ready playing CF and batting 8th or 9th or someone who starts every 5 days. We did, after all, survived Hurricane Silva to win 96 games last year.

No chance of Denard Span becoming a left fielder?
I know I know...
Just can't really replace Hunter out in the field and not sure we have someone officially in left.

(Torii anchors the team and the field.)
