I Should Have Known Better

PREGAME, 1ST, AND 2ND INNINGS

Whoa, sorry I'm late - went shopping! Shopping is a rarity in VA. Hey, we scored a run in the first? The team has to get into this habit.

In the bottom of the second here, things started to cut loose, footloose. But instead of kicking off Sunday shoes, there was some hullabaloo. I don't like hullabaloo. Why was Everybody Loves Raymoan starting to become unhinged like that?

TOP 3RD, MIN 1 TB 0

Where has the 2-out rally gone?

Guys, I just want you to know that I bought seersucker pants today. Classy, eh? Eh?

BOTTOM 3RD

Boy, I really need to be more timely with Ortiz pitching. The guy is undeniably quick.

Uh, blue, Rocco's Modern Life went around on that one. You should be paying attention to the game.

Oh dear.

Remember in 2001 when we couldn't beat the Rays for the life of us? I know I keep harping on it, but I remeber it vividly. I worked afternoons/nights as a security guard (I've had an interesting employment history - ask me about it sometime), and I'd listen to the games on the radio, and it was a year where we thought we might get past Cleveland, but then we lost something like 7 of the last 8 games to the Rays. And then the season went to pot.

And Ramon is getting rocked like he's wearing a D-Backs uniform.

Sweet Jebus.

This is just becoming hard to watch.

WV's not here because he has finals and has to write a paper tonight, by the way.

And hey, there's 0 outs!

"That's just pure doin' it." I have no idea what that means.

And Perkins Family Restaurant is up pitching. Great. I used to think those were some good eats back in my youth.

Wow, I hear they're charging the error to Bartlett? Maybe it's just because that's the default error-maker, but that should be an E1 all the way.

Now I hear it's been fixed. I suppose I could just go look for myself, but that seems like it would take some pure doin' it.

TOP 4TH: TWINS 1 DEVIL RAYS 130

I like when I have to write a bunch during Twins innings, obviously.

The ballad of Kubel Khan continues!

I begrudgingly admit that that was a good catch.

I get the feeling it's gonna be one of those games.

BOTTOM 4TH

CHebuh!1 How do you miss that tag!

It is one of those days. They fall down and still stay safe on the bases.

More damage. My eyeballs are burning in my head.

TOP 5TH: MINNESOTA 1 BAY OF TAMPA 5

What a phenomenal bunt by the King of the Castle.

I recall reading some book in my youth by some kid who was only good at bunting. Called Skinnybones or Skin and Bones, or some other strange creepy title. But his grandpa was very encouraging and said that bunting was a very important part of the game. I'll now fabricate the memory that his grandpa was Bert Blyleven.

Grand Avenue Joe is not having the game of his life today, but he gets a pass from me, now and forever, Amen.

I thought Justin Morneau was going to rise up and tie it with one swing, but he did not. Next time, good doctor. Next time you will rise up.

BOTTOM 5TH

Leadoff triple. And so it goes.

Hey, we got out of that with no damage? I'm... strangely encouraged?

TOP 6TH

OK, instead of talking about the offensitility, I'm going to talk about other books I read in my youth. I don't remember the full name, but either the first or last name of the author was Christopher, and he had a book called "The Kid Who Only Hit Homers." In the current context, he'd be immediately tested for steroids, but I suppose that's beside the point. I vividly recall a part in the book where he had to fill in for Tex (Rex) the catcher and how hard the ball hit his hand and he wondered how he could do it day in and day out. Do you have any childhood books you want to revisit? Let's make this a literary blog!

BOTTOM 6TH

Dare I see a silver lining in the double play? Could this spark an offensive outburst?

Y'ever drink Sparks by the way? That stuff keeps me up all night. It's like a party in a can.

TOP 7TH

Megan, I also used to read Encyclopedia Brown too, and there used to be cool cases, like murders and stuff. There was one how he figured out the murders name was Jason because there were 5 calendar months in a drawer in order, July, August, September, October, November (JASON), get it? And there was one he used a spoon or something to see an object behind him. I loved his parents too. Loafing sort of combination of Barney Fife and Andy Griffith, and the mom who was just astounded by anything other than cooking dinner. Now the books are all stupid, like Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Smelly Sneaker. Boring.

Oh Joe.

BOTTOM 7TH

W, absolutely. I'm gonna be in Bburg this summer helping those poor Engineering students figure out how to analyze qualitative data. And I'll definitely be at Cabo on Saturday night for the dance party.

TOP 8TH

Do I smell a rally?

Well, a Tyner does what a Tyner can. That's just doin' it.

But is it doin' it and doin' it and doin' it well? Does he represent Queens, she was raised out in Brooklyn?

I DO SMELL A RALLY! I believe! And the weather isn't even fair!

Again, not Joe's best day. It's amazing how we can feel the difference when he's not swinging a hot bat, isn't it?

BOTTOM 8TH: TEASES 4 STING RAYS 5

In trots Jesse Pain.

WHY IN SWEET HELL IS THERE A DOME IN FLORIDA?

Gah.

What a play by Bartlett!

TOP 9TH: MNTWINS 4 DRAYS 6

What's a good Encyclopedia Brown title for this game? Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Missing Bullpen? The Case of Assbatitis?

POSTGAME

This makes me more nervous than I'll let on.

Comments:
I turn on the game in the third, we are leading 1-0, and then BAM BAM BAM hits are given up like crazy... lol And runs...
So sad... :(

Time for new luck, called Not-Watching-The-Game-Because-That-Was-Bad-Luck.

Encyclopedia Brown. :) Haha.

Not a little kid's baseball book, but Iowa Baseball Confederacy by Kinsella's pretty damned fine. RK, are you in b'burg for the summer? It'd be fun to grab a beer at some point and talk twins and MN in general.

If it smells like fresh air, then I'm smelling one.

Sadly... either of those E-Brown titles would be perfect.

I'm just happy TB is GONE after this.
